Gale Garnett was born in New Zealand, then her family moved across the ocean, and she did some acting, singing and writing.

When Garnett was about 9, her family moved from New Zealand to Toronto, then to New York City, according to the website waybackattack.com.

Garnett began acting as a teen and did some off-Broadway. She later moved to Los Angeles and was on TV shows such as 77 Sunset Strip, Bonanza and The Real McCoys.

She also did some singing and songwriting. Her debut at 21 was in Manhattan. Garnett released an album, My Kind of Folk Songs. In 1964, a Top 5 hit, "We'll Sing in the Sunshine," was released from that album. Garnett was nominated for two Grammys. She accepted Best Folk Recording in 1965 but lost to Barbara Streisand for Best Vocal Performance, Female.

The songs that  followed -- "Lovin' Place" and "I'll Cry Alone" -- did not make the Top 40. For a few years, Garnett toured college campuses and nightclubs. She recorded six albums.

Garnett resumed her acting career. In 1967, she appeared in Mad Monster Party? Francesca, her character, sang a couple of songs. Garnett was also in Rat Patrol.

Garnett, after cutting ties with her label, began singing lead for Gentle Reign and in 1968 "Breaking Through" was their first hit from An Audience with the King of Words. Another album followed the next year, and with that success a cult following grew.

Eventually she turned more toward acting, including Mr. and Mrs. Bridge and My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Now she goes by Gale Zoe Garnett while on stage with her one-woman plays. Garnett is also an author of a few novels and magazine articles.
