The Medford and NRHEG girls' basketball teams play subsection semifinal games Friday at Mankato East High School. The Tigers (fifth seed) face top-seed St. Peter at 6PM. The defending section champion Panthers (third seed) meet Blue Earth Area at about 7:45PM. The NRHEG-Blue Earth game will be on 104.9FM and the new Kat Kountry 105 app.

The Buccaneers (16-11) beat the Panthers (17-9) on February 20 by a score of 46-36. The teams met in the subsection final last season, with NRHEG winning 59-39. The Panthers advanced to the state tournament last winter, taking the consolation championship.

Medford (18-7) scored a mild upset of fourth-seed Maple River on Tuesday and have won nine of their last ten. No. 16AA St. Peter (20-7) has won fourteen of their last fifteen. The winners of Friday night's games will meet Tuesday, March 6 at 8PM at Minnesota State-Mankato in the subsection final.

In the north subsection Friday, top-seed Norwood Young America plays Jordan and Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop faces Glencoe-Silver Lake at Prior Lake High School.
