NRHEG Baseball, Softball Sweep Games; Owatonna Teams Have Busy Day

NRHEG baseball and softball won their games Thursday by the same score of 9-4. The baseball Panthers beat Blooming Prairie, while their softball counterparts topped St. Clair.

The Panthers baseball team got behind 3-0 in the second inning but responded quickly and tied the game in the bottom of the inning. Dempsey Tucker recovered from the tough inning on the mound to go the distance and get the 9-4 win over Blooming Prairie. He also had three hits, including a triple. The Panthers host Fairmont on Friday.

NRHEG's softball team played a flawless game on defense in their 9-4 victory over St. Clair. Paige Knudson and Rachel Collins each collected three hits. The Panthers host Blue Earth Area on Friday.

Owatonna's girls lacrosse team improved to 3-0 with a 7-2 win at Northfield. It also gives the Huskies a 1-0 conference record in the first race for a Big Nine title. On the boys side, Northfield edged Owatonna 12-10. There are enough Big Nine teams sponsoring lacrosse teams to allow for a conference champion to be crowned this spring.

OHS girls golf beat Faribault 373-419. The Huskies counting scores were Megan Peglow at 89, Jayce Bogen at 93, Tori Urch with 94 and Marie Otterson at 97. The Owatonna boys golf team finished eighth out of nine teams at Alexandria. Andrew Wall shot 75 and finished two strokes behind the medalist.

Blooming Prairie boys golf finished second at the 14-team Stewartville Invitational at Willow Creek with a 327. Byron won the meet with 312. Blooming Prairie's Tommy Braaten finished second with 74. Hunter Fjerstad of Byron won the meet with 67.

United South Central won a girls golf meet they hosted with 227. NRHEG was second at 233. Maple River shot 286. Blooming Prairie's Taylor Christianson was the medalist with 41.

Huskies boys tennis swept Faribault 7-0.
