NRHEG and Triton go to the Air for Victories Friday

Triton football coach Don Henderson can’t remember the last time his team threw as many passes as they did Friday. NRHEG also used the forward pass with much success.

Cobra junior quarterback Brady Essig went 21-for-33 in a 28-19 homecoming win Friday night over Chatfield in Dodge Center. He had 237 yards and two touchdown strikes plus ran one in himself.

The Cobras (2-3) play at St. Charles (3-2) Friday, October 7, in a game with big section seeding implications. Triton has Pine Island (3-2) at home October 14 and goes to Dover-Eyota (1-4) on October 19.┬áCaledonia (5-0) is in the driver’s seat in Section 1AA and sits atop the Southeast District, White Sub-district standings.

NRHEG (4-1) won their fourth straight game Friday, beating Sibley East 38-29 in a back-and-forth battle. Senior quarterback Sam Prigge went 12-for-15 for 220 yards and four touchdowns. Panthers coach Dan Stork says many of the plays were long routes. Prigge also converted on a two-point conversion on NRHEG’s last touchdown that gave them the nine-point winning margin.

NRHEG is tied with Maple River and Kenyon-Wanamingo at 4-1 in Section 2AA. The Panthers go to Le Sueur-Henderson (1-4) on October 7, host Lake Crystal-Welcome-Memorial (2-3) October 14 for homecoming and travel to Maple River October 19. Neither NRHEG nor Maple River play Kenyon-Wanamingo.

Owatonna also had a big night passing in Friday’s 49-18 homecoming win over Austin. Junior signal caller Abe Havelka tossed four first-half touchdown passes. Three of those went to Alex Raichle, tying a school record.
