Northfield Girls Golfer Places Second at State
Northfield Raider junior Molly Stevens placed second at the MSHSL Class AAA Girls State Golf Meet in Coon Rapids. Stevens was three shots behind the youngest person to ever win a state title in golf. Seventh grader Kathryn Van Arragon of Blaine was medalist with a two day total 143. Stevens was in second place going into the final round and continued consistent play breaking 40 on the front and back nines but Arragon was just a bit better.
Chanhassen 8th grader Madi Hicks placed 4th and had a hole in one on the 140 yard number three hole on the west course. Lakeville North senior Megan Welch and freshman Molly Welch were the highest Panther finishers coming in 7th and 8th place with a 151 and 152 to earn All-State status.
Edina won their fourth straight title in Class AAA.
In Class AA Detroit Lakes captured their third straight title by 26 strokes over Marshall and Red Wing came in third place despite having the top two finishers in the 87 person field. The Wingers Sophia Yoemans repeated as medalist with some eye popping numbers. Her nine under opening day round was a course record and MSHSL State Tournament record at Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan and she followed that with a six under par round on the second day for a two day total fifteen under 129. The junior bested her teammate and classmate Leah Herzog by 8 strokes.
There is a bit of a trend here with just three seniors among the top ten finishers. Lake City sophomore Ava Wallerich was 7th for All-State honors with a 153 two day total . Lake City sophomore Mara Rothgarn placed 18th with a 166. Byron senior Grace Hillemeier was 25th with a 169. Kasson-Mantorville freshman Elizabeth Fagerlind carded a 178 and was in 44th place.
