Noeldner Hangs On As Owatonna Wrestlers Win Twice
Sophomore Isaiah Noeldner had a smile on his face despite losing his heavyweight match against Northfield. The loss by a 4-1 decision clinched the meet 33-30 for the Huskies after they slammed Mankato West 51-19 in the first match of the night at Northfield High School.
Noeldner was giving up a significant amount of weight in the 285-pound match. With the Huskies leading by six, he needed to avoid getting pinned or the match would have been decided deep into the tie-breaking criteria. Noeldner made one over-aggressive move and found himself on his back momentarily, sending the gym into pandemonium. Noeldner fought his way out of that predicament and spent most of the match on his feet.
The Huskies trailed several times against the Raiders, including 27-21 after the 182-pound bout. The Raiders forfeited the next two weights, leaving OHS up 33-27 entering heavyweight. OHS got pins from Jerez Autridge and Peyton Robb. Cameron Roberts scored four points late in his 160-pound match that took a major off the board for Northfield.
In the opener over Mankato West, the Huskies sailed out to a 33-0 lead with pins from Blake West, Kanin Hable and Riley Becker, plus an injury-default win for Landen Johnson. Robb and Cade King pinned their opponents.
The Huskies compete at the ultra-competitive Minnesota Christmas Tournament Friday and Saturday December 15-16 at Rochester Technical and Community College.
