The unofficial start to summer, Memorial Day weekend, is here. There will be parades and ceremonies to attend, campgrounds and cabins to drive to, and plenty of road construction throughout the state. With that in mind, the Minnesota Department of Transportation is reminding everyone to use caution this weekend.

According to a Minnesota Department of Transportation press release, “MnDOT will suspend work on most projects during the holiday weekend,” Commissioner Charlie Zelle said. “However, the work zones are still in place. To prevent crashes, drivers need to slow down, pay attention and not follow other vehicles too closely when approaching and traveling through work zones.”

If you're wondering if this affects your route, a complete list of projects that commuters may encounter can be found here, where you can search by region, and you can also check your route at 511mn.org. You might decide to stick with the original plan, or depending on your destination and time restraints, it might make more sense for some situations to find an alternative route.

The press release states that "MnDOT urges motorists to be attentive, drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones."
