Monday was a tough day for the average Minnesota sports fan. The Wild and Twins lost games and Gopher center Amanda Zahui B announced she is leaving early for the WNBA.

The Minnesota Wild lost their regular season home finale 2-0 to Winnipeg. The Wild missed the chance to clinch a playoff spot in front of a record crowd. Minnesota still leads the wild card standings, but the advantage shrunk to two points over the Jets. Minnesota has a tough road trip to close out the regular season. They play at Chicago on Tuesday, Nashville on Thursday and St. Louis on Saturday. Those are the three teams battling for Central Division crown. The Wild could also clinch a playoff spot Tuesday with a win, or a Los Angeles regulation loss.

For the seventh straight season the Minnesota Twins lost their season opener, falling 4-0 at Detroit. David Price retired the first 13 batters he faced and nearly got the complete game shutout. Joe Nathan entered with two outs in the ninth and two runners on base. Nathan fanned Torii Hunter to end it. Minnesota managed just five hits. The top four in the order went 2-for-16. Phil Hughes gave up a pair of second inning home runs. Minnesota plays at Detroit again Wednesday at 12:08 p.m. KRFO Radio has all the Twins action this season on AM 1390.

University of Minnesota sophomore center Amanda Zahui B announced on Monday she is leaving the school to enter the WNBA draft. Zahui was the Big Ten player of the year and a first team All-America selection. She holds the Gophers career blocks record after just two seasons and is only the fourth player in school history to reach 1,000 points by her sophomore year.

Some Minnesota sports fans may have felt better about their situation when the Badgers lost the NCAA championship game to Duke. Which brings up the question, do you cheer for or against North Dakota in the frozen four this weekend?
