One week into the competition season for clay target shooting in Minnesota, teams from Medford and NRHEG lead their conference standings. Owatonna, which is sponsoring a team for just the second season, is second in its conference behind Hutchinson. In clay target conferences are set up based on number of shooters on a team, not enrollment or geographically.

Cole Volkmann of Medford and Dalton Kraay of NRHEG each had a 50-for-50 opening week. Only about 20 shooters, out of over 8.000 across the state, opened in that style. Each competitor shoots two 25-target rounds for their score.

Medford's Nate Meixner and Brandon Kern are at 23.5. For the Panthers, Noah Alinder and Evan Dobberstein averaged 23. Owatonna is led by Cody Bussert and David Schoeneman at 24. Scott Kingland and Lane Roemhildt averaged 23.

Blooming Prairie is led by Karson Vigeland with 21.5. Triton's top shooter in Colby Dobbs at 24 per round.

There's an old adage in sports that the conditions are the same for everyone. Trap shooting is an exception to that. Competition is held on a virtual basis with weekly scores compared to other conference teams. Teams don't shoot at the same time, in the same place or in the same weather conditions. For instance, Owatonna shoots on Mondays. This week that meant for incredibly windy conditions.
