Medford Choir Christmas Concert

The Medford Choir Christmas Concert was Tuesday, December 22, with Bev Cashman directing. Lyn Andrews played piano. It will be broadcast on KRFO AM1390 today at 2PM and Thursday, Dec. 24, at 10AM.

The night started with the Junior High Choir and they sang three songs. The first was "Ale Pun" which is a Christmas Song from Catalan. According to the program, ale pun and cata pun are nonsense words that may refer to the percussive sound of the donkey's hooves as it carried Mary of the plodding feet or Joseph as they made their way to Bethlehem. Then "Jesus, What a Wonderful Child" and last "All I Want For Christmas is You."

Grade 6 choir was next. They sang "Feliz Navidad," "Sleigh Ride" and "Minka," which is a Russian folk song.

Next came eight ensembles and solos with their director playing piano.

MacKenzie Kellen and Lainie Rahn made up their own version to "The 12 Days of Christmas"
Jackson Hemann and Emma Anderson sang "Winter Wonderland/Here Comes Santa Claus"
Krista Esch, Roberta Domstrand and Miya Weber sang "I Want a Hippopotamus For Christmas"
Bella Steffen and Lily Roehrick sang "This Is Christmas to Me"
Kristina Niner sang solo "O Holy Night"
Cassie Larson, Jessi Deering and Kyra Rahn sang "Almost There"
Rebecca Edel, Rachel Bluhm and Sarah Manderfeld sang "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas"

The Concert Choir sang "Still, Still, Still," which is a Austrian carol. They also sang "Carol of the Bells." With Kayleigh Walock and Madie Cloutier on flute, Evan Stewart with percussion and Trenton Lund on bass, the choir sang "I Saw Three Ships" and an Irish folk song, "My Soul Cries Out." Before each selection, a member of the choir read a little Christmas wit. One mentioned Santa and everyone knows that red shines best in the fog and that's why Bernie, the blue-nosed reindeer, did not get the job.

Cashman then invited Medford alumni to join them on stage for the final song, "He Comes To Us As One Unknown."
