The Maranatha Christian Mustangs boys basketball team will have some hefty hardware for the third straight season. The Mustangs defeated the Battle Lake Battlers 74-69 in Class A semifinal action Friday at the Target Center in Minneapolis. That means for the second time in the past three seasons they will be playing for a state title.

Six-foot-4 senior Jeremiah Hanson scored 29 points and collected 12 rebounds to lead Maranatha Christian into the finals. Hanson played every second of the game. Point guard Damario Armstrong had 15 points and seven assists and also played every tick of the clock. And the Mustangs scored 42 points in the paint and tallied 18 points off turnovers.

Battle Lake has lost just twice this season, and both were to Maranatha Christian. The Battlers were led  by Petric Vanerp's 29-point, 12-rebound effort. The 6'5 senior joined two teammates in playing every second of the game. Point guard Andrew Vanerp poured in 18 points for Battle Lake.

Maranatha placed third at state last year and runner-up two years ago, and plays top-rated Rushford-Peterson for the state title tomorrow morning at 11. You can hear all four championship games on KDHL 920AM, kdhlradio.com and on your favorite mobile device by downloading the free Radio Pup app.
