Mankato West, Winona Stay Unbeaten in Big Southeast Football

Mankato West whipped Rochester Mayo is a battle of unbeaten teams Friday 34-7 to improve to 5-0. Winona topped Northfield 24-14 to keep pace with the Scarlets.

Owatonna won its homecoming game 49-18 over Austin on Friday night as junior Abe Havelka threw four touchdown passes in his first varsity start.

Mankato West running back Charles Terry had 177 yards rushing, which was more than Mayo's total offense of 174 yards, according to the Rochester Post Bulletin. Terry had three touchdowns. West led 14-0 at the half while forcing the Spartans into three-and-out in four of their five first-half possessions. Mayo (4-1, 2-0 in Red Sub-district) plays at Owatonna (3-2, 2-0) Friday in a game that will likely determine the No. 1 seed in the section.

Winona kept their record spotless with a 24-14 come from behind win over Northfield. The Winona Daily News says the 'Hawks held the Raiders to 55 rushing yards and intercepted four passes. Winona and Mankato West will meet in week eight of the season in Mankato.

Faribault scored a homecoming win over Rochester JM 34-14 after spotting the Rockets the first touchdown of the game. Faribault's Felipe Ramirez ran for two scores and 138 yards, according to the Faribault Daily News.

New Prague got its first win of the season 35-12 over Red Wing. The Republic Eagle says that Trojan quarterback Nathan Berg threw for 174 yards on 10-for-16 with four touchdowns. New Prague also got an interception return for a score.

Mankato East rallied from a 12-0 deficit to beat Rochester Century 31-12. Albert Lea broke a 32-game losing skid with a 21-6 victory over Tri-City United.
