Allina Health named three nonprofits programs in Owatonna that received Healthy Activity Grants. There were a total of 59 organizations named.

The application process was open to community nonprofits and local government organizations to start or strengthen programs.

The three Owatonna programs received $6,500.

  • United Way of Steele County: Zumba activity classes for Somali women that will meet for six weeks.
  • Centro Campesino: Bi-weekly classes, field visits, conferences and workshops will meet in July through the end of the year for 25 community members.
  • South Central Human Relations Center: To improve independent living skills, "Cooking Matters" will teach adults with mental health needs how to cook nutritious meals on a budget.

The grants have been used for yoga, wellness programs in an emergency shelter and planting community gardens

The grants ranged from $400 to $10,000. The program, Neighborhood Health Connection, was developed by Allina Health to improve communities with healthy eating, physical activities and social connections.
