Elizabeth "Betty Wall" Strofus was very outspoken about rights for WASPs (Women Air Force Service Pilots). She worked hard to get women recognized as veterans. They flew non-combat missions to free up the male pilots for the combat missions during World War II. Liz passed away at age 96 in March.

According to the Associated Press, women were considered civilians during the war. But since 1977 they have had veteran status. Since 2002 they have been able to have their ashes interred in Arlington National Cemetery. But last year the Army said that women should not have been allowed in and revoked the privilege.

A bill is moving through Congress that reverses all of that. The Senate has passed the legislation with a voice vote. Republicans and Democrats are in favor of the bill.

The bill now goes to the House for their vote.
