So, I was looking forward to the new book by Harper Lee Go Set A Watchman.

To tell the truth, I was disappointed. I read another local review, then I didn't feel so bad. I was confused thinking "Why didn't I like it?" In a way, the book didn't flow very well. Here's a kicker. As I was crying at the end, I also realized that the book covers a span of only a few days. That is so different than To Kill A Mockingbird, which was a span of at least a couple of summers. Really, that has nothing to do with anything, just an observation.

I still read the book in short order, probably because of the big type, but I was hoping for better. It was Harper Lee after all. She wrote one of my favorites and many others' favorites, To Kill A Mockingbird, which I read every few years for that reason.

The other reviewer compared it to movie sequels. That made me think of book sequels, not that there are many that I can think of. Well, the Harry Potter series was enjoyed by me along with millions of others. Stephen King has written a sequel to The Shining titled Doctor Sleep. My husband is reading that now. King also wrote Black House, which is a sequel to The Talisman. Since that is next on my list, I may give a review who knows when. Wow, to mention Harry Potter and Stephen King in one paragraph, kind of odd. What can I say, I like a variety of books.

Speaking of a variety, there is also Gone With the Wind, with sequels Scarlett by Alexandra Ripley and Rhett's People and Ruth's Journey both by Donald McCaig. I haven't read the books by McCaig yet.

The good review that I have is on a 2010 movie, not that long ago. Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan starred in The Karate Kid. Yes, that is an updated version of Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita's 1984 The Karate Kid. I could probably go on about this subject, too.

They changed the storyline just enough to make it their own but still kept to the story. It got good reviews in this household. We noticed a few glimpses of dad Will in Jaden.

I also found out that there is going to be The Karate Kid 2, no release date yet.

That is a bad and good review. Bad news first then the good news, right?

The sun is shining above ... Think Happy Thoughts.
