Forty-nine years ago, the Faribault Lions Club decided to have a pancake and sausage fundraiser and coincided it with the first NFL championship game. Both have been growing strong ever since.

I'm proud to say I'm a Lion and would love to see you stop by the Eagles Club this Sunday and enjoy some of my pancakes. Yes, the past couple of years I've been asked to make pancakes in one of the dining areas and I've had a number of compliments about my pancake-making abilities. The feast runs from 7:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.

Even before I joined the Lions a few years ago, I started off my day of the Big Game by stopping by after church and indulging in the delicious food. The sausages are scrumptious, and pancakes are as well. The pancakes are a special concoction of former Lion Bill Harkins, who passed away a few years ago.

Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for children 12 and younger and are available at Fareway, Hy-vee, State Bank of Faribault or from any Lions member. They will also be available at the door. All proceeds benefit Lions projects, including local donations of dictionaries to the third-graders in Faribault, Nerstrand and Medford each year, and two scholarships are funded at South Central College in Faribault. We recently donated toward a second Tilt-A-Whirl car restoration in memory of former Lions Herb and Bruce Sellner. We encourage you to bring old eyeglasses or hearing aids; they are put to good use. I have a few tickets left if you'd like to stop by the station and purchase some from me. Former District Governor and Lions International Board member Deb Wasserman of Faribault will be joining me on AM Minnesota to give us more information about the annual event. Tune in at 9:30 a.m. for details!
