Owatonna Public Utilities got the lights back on at Owatonna High School in time for Friday's homecoming game. The Huskies football team took care of the scoreboard lights with a 34-0 victory in front of a packed stadium in a game that almost wasn't played.

After Thursday's devastating storm left a big swath of Owatonna without power, it appeared the homecoming game might have to be moved to Saturday afternoon. But OPU was able to restore power and the top-ranked Huskies took care of the rest to improve to 4-0 on the season.

Owatonna led 14-0 at the half, outgaining the Rockets just 152-121 through 24 minutes. Brayden Truelson connected with Matt Williams for a 55-yard touchdown strike and Jason Williamson scored on a short run after Truelson hit Jake Miller for a pair of long passes to set up OHS at the JM one-yard line.

The Huskies punted on their first two drives of the second half. Williamson made the next two plays to seal the Huskies 14th straight win over Williams' alma mater. The future Gopher intercepted a pass, right after being called for pass interference. On the first play from scrimmage, he galloped 75-yards, making several cuts and breaking tackles along the way for a 21-0 lead with 3:37 to go in the third quarter.

OHS forced Rochester to punt out of their end zone on the next series and Matt Segler returned the ball to the Rockets' 15-yard line. Truelson threw a 10-yard TD pass to Isaac Oppegard three plays later for a 28-0 advantage.

Owatonna had another short field for their next drive. Williamson capped the four-play, 43-yard drive with a hard 12-yard run with 9:15 remaining in the fourth quarter for the final margin of 34-0.

After a slow start, Williamson ended up with about 140 yards and three touchdowns. Truelson threw for about 160 yards. Owatonna's defense held JM to about 30 yards of offense in the second half.

Owatonna plays at Mankato East Friday, September 28 at 7 pm on KRFO AM 1390 and the KRFO app.
