Being called a geek when I was in school was not a good thing. You couldn't be called much worse, and the word was synonymous with nerd. Anyone who was interested in something a little outside of the norm was considered a geek, especially if you liked Science Fiction, played D&D, or collected comic books.

Now, there is a day to celebrate the geeks, May 25th is known as Geek Pride Day, and it was established in 2006. This is a newer "holiday" but I am going to celebrate it every year from now on. In fact, I am sure I will be watching 'Star Trek The Next Generation' tonight, then maybe some 'Star Wars.' I like them both, more of a 'Trekkie' than anything.

We can all be considered a geek in some ways, be it a sports geek, sci-fi geek, bookworm geek, there is something for everyone and we can all celebrate Geek Pride Day. And remember that the answer to life, the universe, and everything is: 42. Bonus points if you know where that reference comes from.
