By now, you probably have a preferred actor in mind for James Bond. Maybe it’s Idris Elba. Maybe it’s Tom Hiddleston. Maybe it’s Gillian Anderson. You could probably make a compelling argument for or against every actor currently working today; regardless, it’s fun to watch both fans and actors alike cast a pretty wide net for the role. The fact that nothing is off the table this time around can only mean good things for the future of the franchise.

It also means some pretty famous people are coming up with some pretty great ideas. This past week, Kristen Stewart was asked to weigh in on the new Bond during press for her new movie Equals. And while Stewart didn’t throw her own hat into the ring, she did offer a pretty interesting idea of how a female-led Bond movie could play with our expectations.

You start off as the Bond girl and then you think it’s just the girlfriend and then you’re like, ‘She’s actually [Bond].’ In the trailer, it’s him and then [a] bait and switch.

Of course, this sort of bait and switch would be a huge hassle in the current era of movie news and rumors. By the time the film hits theaters, we’ll have pored over every contract negotiation, leaked set photo, and line of interview dialogue. To keep this a secret, the James Bond producers would have to engage in a positively J.J. Abrams-ian media blackout. Still, it’s a fun idea to entertain. Can you imagine sitting in a theater, only to watch Emily Blunt — our own choice for a female James Bond — go from Bond girl to Bond herself in the time it takes to snap your fingers? It would be like that Jackie Chan comedy The Tuxedo, only, you know. Better.

As far as we’re concerned, no point in mixing things up if you can’t have a little fun with the formula as well. Sign us up for Kristen Stewart’s idea of James Bond.
