This week's KRFO Radio Pup of the Week is a rat terrier mix named Smokey. He's crate trained and still working on his potty training. He's about a year old and a little shy around men. For some reason men with gray beards tend to frighten him.

Smokey has been microchipped, neutered and dewormed.

If you have a rodent problem, Smokey might be just what you need. We had a black rat terrier like Smokey. His name was Goldilocks and we called him Goldy for short. I suppose I should explain. At the time our other dog was named Bear so hence our black rat terrier got the name Goldilocks. Bear and Goldilocks.

Years ago someone in our household got the bright idea of fresh eggs. We got a bunch of chickens and threw them in the barn. Things were good the first year. Year two they didn't lay anything but we did have rats. Rats all over the barn going after the chicken feed. We thought a change in scenery might help to get the chickens laying again. My wife is in the caged area picking up chickens and a rat would pop out and run across the wall, which would be followed by my wife shrieking and dropping the chicken and then they'd all go nuts. Finally despite the screams she managed to get all the chickens tossed out to me and I moved them to another pen. They still didn't lay so we shot them.

Meanwhile we still had a rat problem. Goldy to the rescue, that rat terrier was an ace. She'd dig those rats out left and right. It didn't take long for her to clear the barn of our rat problem and I haven't seen one in close to 20 years. Give Smokey a look, he might solve any mice problems you have. His adoption fee is $200.
