Owatonna's basketball teams picked up a pair of Big Nine Conference victories Friday night. The boys won 68-58 at Winona after leading by one at halftime. The OHS girls burst out to a 12-0 lead on their way to a 76-44 win at home.

The OHS boys had three players in double figures, with Dalton Kubista and Jason Williamson each scoring 17. Alex Raichle added 13. The Huskies went 23-for-36 at the free throw line, shooting well especially in the second half. Owatonna forced 24 turnovers. Owatonna's junior varsity won 53-40 and the b-squad topped the Winhawks 39-38. OHS hosts No. 4 ranked Apple Valley Thursday, December 21.

Owatonna's girls put on full-court pressure right away against a Winona team that graduated heavily from a state Class 3A runner-up finish at last season's state tournament. The Huskies led by double figures most of the night. Sydney Schultz scored 23. Alexa Sommers added 11 and had about ten rebounds. Julia Harstad scored 10 with about eight rebounds. Eleven players scored for Owatonna. OHS shot nearly fifty percent and dominated on the boards, with a better than two-to-one margin in rebounding.

The Huskies are off until December 27 when they play a two-day tournament in Alexandria. Owatonna's junior varsity won 41-32 over Winona and their ninth-graders won 33-16.
