If the Steele County Fair isn't enough to signal that summer is winding down, the beginning of high school fall sports practice should do the trick. Monday was the start of official practice across Minnesota. Many teams held captains practice leading up to Monday.

The first Owatonna team to compete in a varsity event will be the girls tennis team when they travel to Lakeville North Monday, August 20 along with Eden Prairie. The Huskies will also be at Northfield and Austin in the opening week, playing six matches over four days.

On Thursday, August 23 three OHS teams make their way to Farmington. The girls and boys soccer teams will play back-to-back at 5 and 7 pm. The volleyball teams will square off that night as well, with radio coverage on Kat Kountry 105 FM. Download the app to catch the action.

Owatonna's girls cross country team runs at Wisconsin-River Falls Thursday, August 23. The teams run at Austin August 28. The one Huskies team that opens their season at home is the girls swimming and diving club on Thursday, August 30 at the middle school.

OHS football begins its state title defense on Friday, August 31 at Faribault. Also on August 31 Blooming Prairie hosts Southland, NRHEG plays Pipestone in New Richland and Medford entertains Winona Cotter. Triton starts a day earlier, Thursday, August 30 by hosting Rochester Lourdes.

Blooming Prairie volleyball begins their season August 28 at JWP. The same night Triton goes to top-ten ranked WEM and NRHEG hosts Nicollet. Medford starts its season August 30 at Dover-Eyota.
