October 1 marks the beginning of the new 4-H year. It's National 4-H week. Prospective members are asked to sign up for 4-H by the end of October. By doing so, you'll earn your first 4H shirt. Youngsters need to be third graders or older to join. There is a Cloverbuds program for those kindergarten aged through second grade. To get signed up go to the 4H web site and then look for Minnesota and then onto towns and individual clubs. Steele County currently has 11 clubs and it's free to join.

Many of the clubs meet on Sunday or Monday nights. You may call (507)-444-7685 if you have questions or need help in choosing a 4-H club.

There will be a Cloverbud kickoff for those in kindergarten through second grade on Monday, October 2 from 6-7PM at the Steele County Community Center. Several times a year 4-H clubs from Steele, Dodge, Waseca, Freeborn and Mower counties get together for a group activity. At the end of October there will be the Ambi Social. This is for 4-Hers in grades 8 or older who can learn about the Ambassador program.

Happy New Year from Steele County 4-H.
