Golden Gopher Football Kicks off Season Thursday on KRFO

Catch all the action of Golden Gopher football on KRFO AM 1390, beginning their season opener Thursday, September 1. The Tracy Claeys radio show airs at 12PM Tuesdays.

With the excitement and energy level of new students arriving on campus this week, the Gophers will open their season Thursday night, hosting Oregon State at 8PM at TCF Bank Stadium. Pregame radio coverage starts at 7PM on KRFO AM 1390.

It's Tracy Claeys' first full year as Gophers coach after taking over partway through the 2015 campaign when his longtime friend Jerry Kill was forced to resign due to health concerns. The Gophers bring back Mitch Leidner at quarterback.

Minnesota is 2-1 all-time versus the Beavers but the teams haven't played since 1981. The Gophers will play at Oregon State in 2017.

Claeys appeared in Owatonna during the Gopher's Chalk Talk Road Trip to give an updated on the program and he talked about Owatonna High School graduate Andrew Stelter, who enters his junior season a little bigger and with some great experience of playing in each of this first two years. Stelter appeared in 13 games as a sophomore, starting seven. He is listed at 6-4 and 290 pounds.
