The Steele County Sheriff's Department defeated the Owatonna Police Department in Thursday's Watermelon Seed Spitting Contest at the Steele County Fair.

Scott Hanson of the Steele County Sheriff's Office won Law Enforcement Day at Watermelon Seed Spitting at the KRFO Stage at the fair. In fact, the Sheriff's Office took the top three distances after losing to their LEC counterparts last year. Kyle Parr won last year as the Police Department had the top three spits in 2013.

Hanson's spit was over 26 feet, but the leader for the week remains Dave Lax of the Knights of Columbus. Friday school personnel will take their turn. Saturday is politicians day.
