Gustavus Adolphus College recently named their athletes of the month for May. A familiar name to followers of Owatonna prep sports might recognize the female recipient of the Student-Athlete of the Month, Briana Hartmann. The award was announced online on Gustavus Adolphus' website and the award was presented by Thrivent Financial and voted on by the Gustavus Sports Information Office.

The online release stated that Hartmann played a key role in the team claiming its 29th MIAC regular season Women's Tennis championship and third-straight league playoff title. The Owatonna native became the first Gustavus women’s tennis player to compete in the NCAA individual championships since Sam Frank in 2011.

In the teams opening round of the NCAA Championships, Hartmann notched a 6-0, 6-0 win at singles against St. Scholastica and also won her doubles match 8-0. However, that was basically the end of the team portion of the NCAA tournament as in the next round they fell to host UW-Whitewater.
