Nearly 200 people filled the Elks Lodge in Owatonna Monday to hear stories from the O.H.S. football coaching staff on the state championship season.

Head coach Jeff Williams and his staff shared behind the scene stories, many of them amusing, from the Huskies state championship run in November. OHS Hall of Fame hockey coach Dudley Otto welcomed the staff to the Elks. He is the in-coming exhalted ruler of the Elks. Former AD Jim Herzog was the emcee.

Stories covered a wide range of topics.

  • The impact the crowd at the Metrodome had on the team / coaches
  • Coached being run over by the managers on the sidelines with the large play cards
  • Saturday morning BBQ after shutouts
  • The play calling chain-of-command
  • Coaches scaring each other in dark
  • The working relationship between the coaches
  • Story of youth football coaching rivalries
  • Comparing & contrasting the playbook of Coach Peterson's days to today's

Coach Williams recognized Defensive Coordinator March Achterkich, who has been named the Minnesota Football Coaches Association "Assistant Coach of the Year." The banquet is March 29. Read the previous KRFO posting here.

Williams also said senior linebacker Luke Wanous is on the roster for the All Star game in June.

Some proceeds from Monday night's "Let's Talk Football" will go to the OHS football program.
