A fire on Thursday at a construction site in Lakeville has claimed the life of a 35-year-old man from Inver Grove Heights. The Star Tribune reported that Chris Cahoon, was working for Lennar Corp., in the basement of a house on the project site when the accident occurred. Cahoon was a construction manager and was checking heaters.

Lakeville police and fire, responded to a 911 call around 9:30AM Thursday and found Cahoon. He was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he died Thursday afternoon.

The state fire marshal and Lakeville Fire Department are investigating the cause of the fire. The state Occupational Safety and Health Division, often called Minnesota OSHA, started its investigation Friday. Construction has been halted at the site during the investigations, Fire Chief Mike Meyer said.

The Minnesota OSHA will investigate to determine whether any of the agency's workplace safety standards were violated. If there were violations, Lennar could face a $25,000 fatality penalty. If OSHA finds evidence of a "willful or repeated violation," the penalty doubles.
