My son recently had his final day of high school, though it didn't involve going to a high school. His prep career wrapped up with an early morning final followed by video games.

Aaron decided to take advantage of Minnesota's PSEO program, which allows high school juniors and seniors to take college classes for no charge while earning high school and college credits. In hindsight my wife and I wish he had started a year earlier to get an even bigger head start on college with little hit on the checkbook.

So his final day of class this spring was an 8AM logic final on May 10. He was there and back home before 10AM and playing video games before he even had breakfast. He admitted it was an anticlimactic day.

I remember my final day of high school in Hibbing. Everyone lined up in their final class and was escorted from the building by their teacher. I'm still not sure why it had to be such an organized exit from the building. But I remember much hooting and hollering and a little bit of celebrating to honor the day.

Aaron still hung out with his high school friends this school year and even made a couple of friends at community college. PSEO students can still participate in their high school events. He is still competing on his school's trap shooting team this spring. He recently attended prom and will be part of the senior class photo.

Aaron's high school commencement is in June and he will go to the University of Minnesota in the fall. He had a teenage-friendly schedule while attending college. He never had a Friday class and for the first semester he didn't need to be to class until 1PM a couple of days each week.

I've talked to numerous parents whose children have used the PSEO program and all have good things to say about it.

My daughter graduated from college in 2015. Now my son is done with high school. Another year, another milestone. Next year I hit a certain birthday milestone, ending with a zero.
