Faribault Police Chief Andy Bohlen issued a news release Wednesday giving details  about a call officers responded to about 6:47 p.m. Tuesday night in the 1500 block of Windsor Place in Faribault.  There was a report of a domestic incident involving a firearm.  Chief Bohlen says officers established a perimeter around the home and notified nearby residents as a precautionary measure.  The alleged armed subject was inside a residence and not responding to initial police requests to exit the home and talk with police.

Assistance was provided by the Rice County Sheriff's Office, Dakota County MAAG team (SWAT), Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and Minnesota State Patrol.  Chief Bohlen reported a few hours after establishing the perimeter around the resident the subject exited and surrendered to officers at the scene.  Michael Wittenberg, age 31, was arrested and taken into custody at the Rice County Jail.

According to the Rice County Jail Roster Wittenberg is being held for probable cause Charges of Misdemeanor Domestic Assault and Terroristic Threats.

Chief Bohlen says, "Thankfully nobody was seriously injured as a result of the incident.  The Faribault Police Department thanks the public for it's patience and support during the event which required a massive police presence and emergency vehicles to flood the area.

Chief Bohlen adds, "It was a great region-wide effort with many resources and the final resolution was positive.  Utilizing a SWAT team to make entry into a home is always a last option and taken very seriously so we were grateful the subject exited the home and complied with law enforcement."
