Aug. 17 marks the official start of fall sports practice for several prep sports. It also starts the second week of practice for high school football teams.

Owatonna volleyball turned in another solid season last fall, winning 19 matches, with a number of their losses coming to ranked opponents. The Huskies open their season Thursday, Aug. 27, at Prior Lake. That match will be broadcast on Kat Kountry 105FM and via the radioPup app.

OHS boys soccer has appeared in the last three section finals, earning state tournament trips in 2012 and 2013. The girls have had a great run of success in the Big Nine recently, giving up few goals and contending for the crown each year. The boys and girls open their seasons at Apple Valley on Thursday, Aug. 27.

Huskies girls tennis is traditionally the first varsity team to begin their season. That is being trumped this year with the early start of football on Saturday, Aug. 22. OHS girls tennis starts their season at Lakeville North on Monday, Aug. 24.

The girls swimming season begins Thursday, Sept. 3 for Owatonna, hosting Rochester Mayo.

Owatonna girls cross country runs at UW-River Falls on Thursday, Aug. 27. The boys compete at Austin on Tuesday, Sept. 1, for their first meet.

The high school football season opens Saturday, Aug. 22.
