On April 11, we will celebrate National Pet Day, although, if you have any pets, you quickly learn that EVERY day is pet day. They tend to take over the house, and the hearts of those of us who adopt them into our families. We don't call them our fur-babies for nothing.

National Pet Day was founded in 2006 as a way to celebrate our pets, and to bring attention to those animals who are in shelters. A few fun facts about pets:

  • 80 million households in the United States currently have a pet
  • In the U.S., there are almost 80 million pets dogs and almost 86 million pet cats
  • A group of cats is called a clowder or a glaring
  • Cats on average will sleep 13-14 hours a day, and who is surprised by this?

We currently have 2 cats in our house, is that enough to qualify as a glaring? Even if it isn't, I'm going to call them that now. And let me tell you, they do sleep a lot, seems like the only time they are awake is 3 am, running laps throughout the house. I wouldn't trade them for anything.

If you do not currently have any pets and want to participate, you can always volunteer with the different rescues, or Humane Society, even adopt your own fur-baby. The Steele County Humane Society has pets available for adoption.

Here's a picture of my glaring. We would love to see your pet pictures, so please share them on our Facebook page.
