Additional Information

2015 marks the 23rd anniversary of the Habitat 500 Bike ride: 120 cyclists and 33 volunteers will start their 500-mile trek through southern Minnesota on July 12 this year. Starting in Owatonna, the ride travels through Albert Lea, Spring Valley and Winona before making a brief stop in La Crosse and returning to Winona. On July 16, the ride will continue back through Spring Valley and Kasson before ending in Owatonna on July 18. The ride is hosted by Habitat for Humanity of Minnesota, and helps to raise money for providing simple, decent and affordable housing for families in need.

Participants are required to raise a minimum of $1,000 to be a part of the ride. The 2014 fundraising goal of $400,000 was surpassed by a staggering $120,000. The ride has raised $3.94 million since Habitat for Humanity of Minnesota took over coordination of the event in 2002.

The impact of the money raised by the Habitat 500 is seen firsthand when the ride stops in the community with the yearly bike.home. build. Riders have the option of working on the bike.home. build in Winona this year. The build gives riders an opportunity to see their efforts making a true difference in the lives of the soon to be homeowners.
