In conjunction with Earth Day, Owatonna Parks and Recreation has scheduled a park clean up day for Sunday, April 22. Simply show up at Dartts Park between 2-4PM. You'll be cleaning up the park and planting some trees. Bring the kids along for a scavenger hunt. There will be free snacks along with arts and crafts.

Check in will be at the large pavilion. Keep tab on what's happening in regards to this event by going to the Owatonna Parks and Recreation web site.

The first Earth Day was observed on April 22, 1970. It was spearheaded by Senator Gaylord Nelson of Clear Lake, Wisconsin. Nelson grew up about 15 miles from where I did. By the way the small town of Clear Lake was also the home of baseball Hall of Famer Burleigh Grimes. Just think, in 2 years, Earth Day will celebrate a half century.
