Early Deficits Too Much to Overcome for Owatonna Baseball and Boys Lacrosse
Owatonna’s baseball and boys lacrosse teams faced early deficits Tuesday. Each team rallied but came up short at the end.
OHS baseball lost to Albert Lea 6-4 at Fuller Field after falling behind 5-0. The Huskies rallied to within 5-4 but the Tigers added an insurance run in the seventh and scored the Big Nine victory. Owatonna’s rally included a three-run fourth inning. They loaded the bases with consecutive singles by Tucker Alstead, Noah Budach and Brady Schuster. Abe Havelka walked to force in a run. Ben Staska and Nathan Deason hit into ground outs that pushed runners across home plate.
In the fifth inning, Dawson Leer walked. Spencer Glynn ran for him and advanced to third on a errant pick off play at first. He jogged home on a long double by Alstead. Schuster started on the mound for the Huskies. Havelka took over in the fourth.
OHS boys lacrosse fell behind No. 4 Eagan 6-0 and dropped an 11-5 non-conference decision at Husky Stadium at OHS. The loss ended a six-game winning streak for Owatonna (6-3, 5-1 Big Nine). The Huskies host Northfield at 6:30PM Friday on Kat Kountry 105FM. The conference website shows the Raiders leading the standings at 6-0. One of those wins was a last-second 10-9 victory over the Huskies on April 21.
Owatonna fast-pitch softball edged Albert Lea on Tuesday 1-0. The Huskies play a makeup game Wednesday at Rochester Mayo at 5PM. OHS boys tennis won their fifth straight match, 6-1 over Mankato East. They host Austin at 4:30PM Wednesday in a makeup match at OHS at 4:30PM.
