‘Chronicle 2′ Happening After All? Fox Hires New Writer for the Sequel
‘Chronicle 2,’ the potential sequel to director Josh Trank‘s found-footage kids-with-superpowers movie that broke out Dane DeHaan and Michael B. Jordan into the spotlight, seemed to always be a thing that might eventually happen (at least, according to writer Max Landis), but hangups and the lack of an official green light made it seem unlikely. However, 20th Century Fox is giving life back to the project as it hired a new writer to take over the script.
According to Deadline, the studio hired newcomer Jack Stanley, a Black List writer with no production credits to his name, to take over writing duties for ‘Chronicle 2.’ Previously, Max Landis penned the script for the original and was working on possible treatments for a sequel, but when he dropped off the film, he threw out some of his story ideas onto the webosphere. Though, he admittedly doesn’t know anything about what Fox might actually produce.
‘Chronicle’ starred Dane DeHaan (now known for ‘Kill Your Darlings,’ ‘Metallica Through the Never‘ and playing Harry Osborn in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2‘) as an outcast high school kid obsessed with documenting everything through a handheld cam. When he, his cousin (Alex Russell) and his cousin’s friend (Michael B. Jordan) stumble upon some sort of alien entity, they are bestowed with telekinetic powers, but things soon go awry when the boys start abusing them.
Trank has since moved on to direct Fox’s ‘Fantastic Four‘ reboot and Jordan is set to star in it as Human Torch/Johnny Storm opposite a cast that includes ‘The Spectacular Now‘ star Miles Teller as Mr. Fantastic/Reed Richards, ‘House of Cards‘ star Kate Mara as Invisible Woman/Sue Storm and AMC’s ‘Turn‘ star Jamie Bell as The Thing/Ben Grimm. The studio also has a ‘Fantastic Four 2‘ already planned, so Trank’s involvement in ‘Chronicle 2′ seems very unlikely.
While we wait to hear more information about the sequel, re-watch the trailer for the first ‘Chronicle’ and get hyped all over again.
