Cannon Falls Reports Widespread Storm Damage

Cannon Falls officials report damage to residences and businesses in the Goodhue County community but no injuries.  Police Chief McCormick issued a news release noting his city was hit at approximately 7:04 p.m. and added, "The City of Cannon Falls is very glad there were not any storm related injuries."  He described, "Power outages impacting some areas within the City."

The City of Cannon Falls Emergency Services and Public Works Department have been working to clear trees blocking roads.  "There are still roads blocked because powerlines prevent the removal of the trees, or opening the roads."  The Police Chief also states in his news release, "the City of Cannon Falls knows that many people will want to help us, but right now the best help you can provide is to stay home so there are not extra vehicles driving around while the crews work to make the roads safe for travel again."

"The City of Cannon Falls staff needs to have daylight to get a full assessment of the damages from the storm.  Once we have a full understanding of the extend of damages in impacted areas, we can better determine what additional assistance will be needed to clean up from this storm.  We ask that anyone thinking of volunteering assistance please want the Cannon Falls Police Department Facebook page and/or the City of Cannon Falls Facebook page Friday for updates on what assistance volunteer help can provide."

Chief McCormick also reminds the citizens of his city to, "Report anything suspicious that they may see or hear as soon as possible so an officer can check on what is occurring."
