Blooming Prairie Trap Shooting Leads Conference Standings

Three weeks into their competition season, the Blooming Prairie High School trap shooting team leads their conference standings. NRHEG is second in their conference.

Blooming Prairie is a 1A team in the trap shooting league and competes with Litchfield, Osakis, Osseo, Menahga, St. Paul Academy, Comfrey, Hancock and Pelican Rapids in their conference. Conferences are based on number of shooters, not on school enrollment. Competitions are held on a virtual basis, with scores submitted online. Therefore geography is not important in the make up of conferences.

Blooming Prairie seventh-grader Karson Vigeland leads the conference. Senior Carissa Easton, a newcomer to the sport, is second in the conference. Boys and girls compete side by side in trap shooting.

NRHEG is second in its conference, behind McGregor-Aitkin-Cromwell. The Panthers are a 4A team. Triton and Medford are both 2A teams.

The regular season is about halfway done. There are two state tournaments for trap shooting. The first is an open event in Alexandria in mid-June. The state high school league hosts a one-day event June 20 at Minneapolis Gun Club in Prior Lake. Shooters and team must qualify for that tournament.

There are about 8,600 shooters across Minnesota, making it the second-highest participation sport in the state, behind only football.
