Blooming Prairie, NRHEG, Triton Open Football Playoffs at Home Wednesday; Medford on the Road

The high school football playoffs begin Wednesday night. Blooming Prairie and Triton face teams they beat during the regular season. Owatonna has a first-round bye.

Blooming Prairie just beat United South Central 18-6 in week seven. BP coach Chad Gimbel says his team has to maintain a good focus. He also told KRFO radio that a player or two might miss the game with an injury.

USC at Blooming Prairie will be heard on Kat Kountry 105FM, katkountry105.com and on the free RadioPup app. Kickoff is 7PM. BP is the third seed. The other quarterfinals in Section 2A are St. Clair at Faribault BA, Mankato Loyola at Minnesota Valley Lutheran and JWP at New Ulm Cathedral.

Triton hosts St. Charles at the Snake Pit in Dodge Center. The Cobras beat the Saints 36-19 in week six. Triton coach Don Henderson comments on the top two seeds in 1AA. The other quarterfinals are Zumbrota-Mazeppa at Lewiston-Altura, Dover-Eyota at Chatfield and Winona Cotter at Caledonia.

NRHEG earned a home playoff game with their 6-2 record, but are the fourth seed and will host Blue Earth Area at 7PM in New Richland. Panther coach Dan Stork expects a tough battle.

The other 2AA quarterfinals are Le Sueur-Henderson at Maple River, Lake Crystal-Welcome-Memorial and Medford at WEM. Tigers' coach Jerome Johannes says this is a rivalry game and says his team will be ready.

Owatonna has a first-round bye Wednesday. As the top seed in Section 1-5A, the Huskies will play Tuesday, October 20, in the semifinals against the winner of Wednesday's game between Rochester Century and Northfield. Austin opens at Rochester JM with the winner going to Rochester Mayo next week. Huskies' coach Jeff Williams is guarding against a playoff letdown.
