The Blooming Prairie girls' basketball team gets one more game on their home court after landing the eighth seed for the upcoming Section 1A playoffs. BP (11-9) will host Randolph (14-11) Thursday, February 21 at 7 pm. The Awesome Blossoms just beat the Rockets 58-27 on Wednesday, February 13. BP will makeup a game at United South Central on Tuesday, February 19.

Blooming Prairie played close with unbeaten Medford (No. 8AA, 20-0 after win at 53-45 win at BP Friday). Blossoms' coach John Bruns said after the game, "We definitely took some steps in the right direction tonight...We did a nice job against a very good team."

Bruns said his team wasn't ready for the intensity and physicality of Medford when they met early in the season. The Tigers won that game 73-45. Bruns added, "This time I felt we were a lot more ready for that." Blooming Prairie jumped ahead 8-2 Friday night, but surrendered a big run to the Tigers late in the first half and trailed throughout the second half, although kept it close.

After the game Friday, Bruns had to wade through his notes regarding the 19 teams in Section 1A to do his seedings, "It's a lot of common opponents and a lot of comparing and contrasting, back and forth, and different strength of schedules. It's a tough job."

With the eighth seed, Blooming Prairie will open at home on Thursday, February 21 against Randolph. The winner will likely face top-seed and No. 2-ranked Grand Meadow Tuesday, February 26 at the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester. The Superlarks are 23-1 with their only loss coming last Friday against defending state champ Lyle/Pacelli, who is the No. 4 seed in this tournament.
