The Blooming Prairie VFW, American Legion, Auxiliaries and Sons of American Legion have all come together and have begun a fund to honor all veterans by building a veterans memorial in Blooming Prairie.

The site was donated by the Blooming Prairie Serviceman's Club and will be built on a portion of their land on Fourth Street Northeast.

The groups joined together with John Heerema of Owatonna Granite and Monument and Alexander Lumber to decide on the design. They wanted the memorial to be seen from the road and not be buried by snow. All branches will be honored with granite pillars and there will be benches and walls as well.

Ground breaking will happen when $100,000 of the $250,000 has been raised.

Money is being raised by fundraisers and people buying pavers, which are $350, for veterans to be added to the memorial. So far 70 pavers have been sold. Call the Servicemen's Club for more information at 583-7884.

There will be a be a Veterans Memorial Pancake Breakfast on Sunday, September 25, at the Servicemen's Club in Blooming Prairie from 8AM to noon.
