If I-35 south of Owatonna is part of your daily commute, or travel plans this spring and summer, be prepared to deal with construction.

According to a press release by the Minnesota Department of Transportation, "Motorists south of Owatonna on Interstate 35 will encounter alternating lane closures beginning on April 3 as preparations begin to replace three southbound bridges." The release goes on to say, "Once the preparations are complete, traffic is scheduled to switch on April 6 a single lane in each direction in the northbound lanes. Southbound lanes will be closed until mid-September while three bridges are replaced. The Straight River Rest Area for southbound will be closed at that time. The northbound rest area is under construction and is expected to open later in summer." The press release states that this is part of a two-year project that involves replacing six bridges on I-35 and an additional four bridges on Highway 14 south of Owatonna.

It is suggested that drivers use the zipper merge in construction zones.
