‘Ant-Man’ Takes the Original ‘Batman Vs. Superman’ Release Date
Warner Brothers recently shuffled their release dates when ‘Batman Vs. Superman‘ was moved into 2016 and ‘Pan‘ was put into the date the Zack Snyder film had previously claimed. Marvel, perhaps sensing that an updated version of ‘Peter Pan’ is no direct competition, has now moved Edgar Wright‘s ‘Ant-Man‘ up to July 17, 2015.
What makes this interesting is that ‘The Untitled Zack Snyder Superhero Movie’ (which could actually be a ‘Justice League‘ movie, though it’s hard to suss out Warner Brothers/DC’s ultimate game plan) shuffled from July 17, 2015 to May 6, 2016, which was a date already claimed by Marvel for one of their upcoming movies. Which leads us to two conclusions: one is that the studios agreed upon this date change and Marvel will back off their May 2016 date, or that Marvel and DC are actually going to go head to head, and Marvel moved ‘Ant-Man’ on to the ‘Pan’ release date out of spite.
Is this the beginning of war? It could be, though it gets complicated when films are now being dated years before release, and years before scripts/casts/etc. have come together, while studios have been known to work with each other to give each other breathing room with their A titles. Regardless, the good news is we’ll get to see Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas in ‘Ant-Man’ two weeks sooner than we previously thought.
