Steele County Emergency Management and the Owatonna Steele County Amateur Radio Club, or OSCAR, will be offering free ham radio license classes.

They will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30-8:30PM from February 16 through March 10 at the Owatonna Fire Hall. Besides basic knowledge of ham radio, instructors will help students study for the No-Code Technician Class exam. Class instruction is free and the study guide is $29.

The license exam will be offered on March 10. This will be open to anyone. The exam fee is $15. The class is open to all ages. Children 12 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

Amateur radio operators can play a vital role during times of emergency or severe weather, plus it can be a lot of fun meeting new people via the airwaves.

Call Tom at (507) 444-9133 to register or find out more. You may also check out their website.
