The Jacks built a 5-1 lead at Fuller Field at Dartt's Park on Wednesday night, then held off the Aces for a 5-4 victory.

It was a beautiful night for baseball, with temperatures in the 70s, no wind and few, if any, bugs. The baseball game was not too pretty, however. Several Owatonna errors led to runs for the Jacks. Wanamingo scored two runs on a pitch that got by the catcher and the Aces overthrew pitcher Brandon Wolf covering home plate twice.

Owatonna hit into three double plays. On one, interference was called when the runner going to second did not slide and ran into the fielder. Late in the game with runners on the corners the Owatonna batter popped up a bunt with the runners in motion that lead to an easy double play.

The Aces stranded four runners at third base. A pair of Wanamingo pitchers struck out a dozen Owatonna batters and gave up just four hits but walked six. Owatonna's Brian Simon and Riley Thompson hit back-to-back doubles in a two-run seventh inning.

Wolf went the distance, giving up seven hits and fanning six. Aces middle infielders Travis Hilstad and Sam Zappa made several great plays.

The Aces host Northfield at 7:30PM Friday at Fuller Field.
