‘Almost Human’ Canceled: FOX Declines Season 2 for J.J. Abrams’ Future Cop Drama

Almost Human Canceled FOX Season 2

Almost Human,’ almost renewed.

We hadn’t quite kept up with the entirety of FOX’s Karl Urban-Michael Ealy android cop drama, though the early episodes were promising enough and increased serialization brought stronger reviews from the fanbase. Alas, FOX has not proven as sympathetic with J.J. Abrams and J.H. Wyman’s post-‘Fringe‘ sci-fier, officially canceling ‘Almost Human’ after one season.

Despite low ratings and a muddled episode order with the initial installments, ‘Almost Human’ might well have skated by toward another season of 13 episodes, joining ‘The Following‘ and ‘Sleepy Hollow‘ in the pantheon of the network’s shorter-term series, though Deadline reveals that the likely strong prospects for such series as Batman prequel ‘Gotham,’ ‘The Red Band Society’ and hip-hop drama ‘Empire’ had a hand in reducing ‘Almost Human”s chance for a second season.

Developed by ‘Fringe‘ team Wyman, Abrams and Bryan Burk, ‘Almost Human’ saw Urban as John Kennex, a respected police officer who shut down emotionally following a disastrous mission that killed nine fellow officers and left him critically injured. Former ‘Common Law‘ star Michael Ealy portrayed his android partner Dorian in front of a cast that included Lili Taylor as the police captain, as well as Minka Kelly, Mackenzie Crook (‘Game of Thrones‘) and Michael Irby.

Well, what say you? Are you sad to see ‘Almost Human’ headed to the scrap heap, or might another network swoop in for a second season under Warner Bros. TV? Should the android cop drama have been given a second chance?
