For 10 people, this past weekend was the last one of their lives. Among those lost were 16-year-old Carter Peterson of Ada, who died in a fiery two-vehicle crash in Norman County; 65-year-old Edward Lipscomb of Lakeville, who was killed when his motorcycle was struck head on while on County Road 3 in Le Sueur County; a 71-year-old man from Vilard, who was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Polk County; Joel Miller of Nicollet, who was killed Saturday when his motorcycle went off the road; 66-year-old Marvin Kuiper of Isle, who died when his vehicle rear-ended a school bus in Kanabec County; a 27-year-old Winona man, who was killed in a head-on crash with a bus near Wabasha on Friday; a 24- and 25-year-old, who were killed in rollover crashes; and a 7-year-old, who was hit crossing the street to get the school bus.

The total vehicle-related deaths in Minnesota as of Monday is 307. By Oct. 12 last year the state was at 300. There were 396 killed in 2015. They year still has two and a half months to go, with the holiday season fast upon us. Please don't drink and drive, don't text and drive, and watch your speeds and wear your seat belts. A statewide Click It or Ticket campaign is in effect through Oct. 30.
