As we get set for the prep football season I looked back on some of the most exciting and impactful regular-season Owatonna High School football games over the past several years.

I will dig through the archives for the top playoff games when that time of year rolls around. This will be my 25th year of calling Owatonna football games on KRFO. Brad Fischer has been providing the color commentary for even longer than that, but is still looking as young as can be.

To list seven games was a random choice. If you have memories from a different game that I should have included, send me a note at roy.koenig@townsquaremedia.com or talk to me at a game. The list is not so much a ranking but just a look back through the past few years.

The 2016 Huskies face a tough start to their campaign. Their season-opening opponent Mankato West was a state semifinalist last year. Week two features Rochester John Marshall, who lost to West in the state quarterfinals. Week three sends the Huskies to Northfield, who lost to JM in the Section 1AAAAA finals.

If history is a good measuring stick, we can expect a very competitive season from Owatonna. Over 20 seasons as head coach, Jeff Williams' teams have had a .500 or better record 17 times.

    Faribault 36, OHS 31 (10-15-09)

Not every game in the list should be an Owatonna win. Faribault scored with :02 left on a fourth-down play on a muddy field in rainy conditions. It's a tough game for Owatonna fans to remember, though the 2012 game probably got some "payback" for the Owatonna program.
