Those traveling to the Twin Cities this weekend will find a traffic problem to deal with. 35W will be closed in both directions from I-94 to Crosstown 62, starting at 10 pm Friday March 2, so crews can demolish the 38th St. Bridge.

The bridge itself will close at 6am on Friday.  Crews will begin closing ramps to the impacted stretch of I-35W at 9 p.m. Southbound I-35W will be open to traffic south of 46th Street.

Motorists will be detoured around the work using I-394, Highway 100 and Highway 62. I-35W should be able to reopen Monday, March 5 at 5 a.m., in time for the morning rush.

These closures are part of the four-year 35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown reconstruction project on I-35W, which includes reconstructing pavement, bridges and ramps on I-35W, adding new access ramps to the Lake Street Business District, building a transit station on the interstate and constructing new MnPASS lanes.
