Everyone loves comic book trivia, but with 75 years of superhero comics behind us right now, there’s always some new obscure fact to learn. That’s why ComicsAlliance is going deep into the minutiae of your favorite names in comics in our continuing video series. You think you know comics? Well, here’s a few things you might not know!

Face front, true believer! This week we're taking a look at Stanley "The Manley" Lieber, aka Stan "The Man" Lee! Join us, effendi, as we take a peek under Stan's Soapbox to learn the secrets of how he got into comics, what he did when he got there, and what he's been doing since he left. Don't be an Irving Forbush and miss out. Excelsior! Where's the beef? Ba-da-ba-ba-ba I'm lovin' it!

Show notes:

  • Hey, did you know that Stan Lee's run on Fantastic Four with Jack Kirby is the greatest and most influential superhero comic of all time? Well, if you didn't, you do now. If you haven't read it, start here or skip to the really good stuff here.
  • Oh, you're a Ditko partisan, are you? In that case, the other greatest superhero comics run ever was Lee's early issues of Spider-Man, co-written and drawn by Steve Ditko. If you haven't read those for some reason, start here for that good stuff.
  • I feel like it's impossible to grow up a comics kid without someone giving you a copy of How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way by Lee and John Buscema, but maybe your family hated you or you got into comics as an adult (or both?).
  • If this video has piqued your interest about Stan Lee's life, you have a choice between not one but two different semi-auto-biographies.
  • If you want the real scoop, probably read Marvel Comics: The Untold Story instead.
  • Oh, and: you can get season one of Stripperella on DVD here.
